POSCO Group Tech Forum Kicks Off
Jang Inhwa, Chairman of POSCO Group, announced that the group will enhance all employees' artificial intelligence (AI) utilization capabilities and concentrate its resources on future technology development, including robotics, securing key minerals, and resource acquisition.
On November 18, at the opening of the "POSCO Group Tech Forum" held at POSTECH in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, Chairman Jang stated, "We will overcome uncertainties in the business environment through AI-based digital innovation and the development of breakthrough technologies." Now in its 37th year, the Tech Forum serves as a venue to share technological development achievements in the group’s core businesses and discuss future technology strategies. The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman Jang, representatives of affiliates, and over 1,300 executives and employees from technical fields.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Jang said, "We will accelerate the pace of technology development by promoting large-scale, breakthrough projects as a 'One-Team' effort involving both field sites and research labs." He specifically highlighted key initiatives such as strengthening resource acquisition in the steel and secondary battery materials sectors, accelerating AI-based digital transformation, and transitioning to a corporate R&D system to internalize core technologies.
Chairman Jang emphasized, "Securing resources in the steel and secondary battery materials businesses cannot be overstated," adding, "We must expand global mineral exploration and proactively develop the necessary technologies." He also urged, "Let’s enhance every employee’s ability to utilize AI so that we can achieve AI-driven digital innovation in all workplaces."

The opening ceremony also featured the "POSCO Technology Awards," which recognize employees who have contributed to improving technological competitiveness. The highest honor, the Innovation Award, was presented to the Steelmaking Department of Pohang Works and the Cathode Research Center of POSCO Future M. The Steelmaking Department of Pohang Works was recognized for developing an "autonomous operation technology" that fully automates all steelmaking processes with AI, eliminating operator variability and reducing process time by about 10%. The Cathode Research Center of POSCO Future M was highly praised for mass-producing a new "continuous circulation concentration" process for precursor production, which reduced processing costs and enhanced productivity.
