Prosecutors Seek 1-Year Prison Sentence for YouTuber Over Spreading False Information About Chey Tae-won
Known as an Acquaintance of Director Noh Soyoung
Prosecutors have requested a prison sentence for a YouTuber indicted on charges of spreading false information about SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Kim Heeyoung, Director of the T&C Foundation, with whom he cohabits.
On the 17th, during the first trial for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act held at the Seoul Northern District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Seo Younghyo of the 11th Criminal Division, prosecutors asked the court to sentence Park (age 70), the YouTuber, to one year in prison.
Park is accused of posting videos and articles containing baseless claims-including allegations of a 100 billion won donation, suspicions of interference in his children’s employment, and other false information about Chey and Kim-on his YouTube channel and blog between June and October of last year. The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Park without detention this past July.
He is known to be a long-time acquaintance and close associate of Noh Soyoung, Director of Art Center Nabi, whose divorce from Chairman Chey was recently finalized. He has been active in broadcasting, describing himself as the "fan club president," and is also reported to have participated in future-related academic societies alongside Director Noh.
In his final statement, Park said, "I acted out of sympathy for Director Noh’s efforts to keep her family together," and added, "When responding to the anchor’s questions on YouTube, I became agitated and exaggerated my statements. I deeply regret my actions."
