5.18 Democratization Movement Casualties Association Elects Shin Geukjeong as New President
The 5·18 Democratization Movement Casualties Association, a public organization, has elected Shin Geukjeong as its new president.
According to the association on November 17, Shin Geukjeong was confirmed as the new president at an extraordinary central general meeting recently held at the 5·18 Democratization Movement Education Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju.
President Shin ran unopposed in this election and, in accordance with the association's bylaws, was automatically appointed as president without a separate voting process. His term will run until July 1, 2028.

Previously, the association experienced internal conflict after former president Cho Gyuyeon became embroiled in allegations of collusion with a specific candidate during the presidential election process. This led to legal proceedings and a general meeting resolution, resulting in Cho's dismissal and leaving the presidency vacant.
