Shinhan University (President Kang Sungjong) has been providing prompt and systematic support for international students and their families following a recent traffic accident involving international students.

View original imageIn the early morning of November 7, four Shinhan University students from Uzbekistan were involved in a car accident in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, when their vehicle collided with a utility pole while they were returning home.
As a result of the accident, one international student lost their life, and three others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Immediately after the accident, Shinhan University activated an emergency response system at the university level. The university is working in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan to provide urgent visa assistance so that the families of the injured students can enter Korea quickly. In addition, the university is supporting medical expenses through voluntary donations from faculty and staff. University officials are also making frequent visits to the hospital to check on the students' conditions and are providing real-time updates to their guardians regarding treatment progress.
Furthermore, the university is supplying daily necessities to the injured students and offering consultations with social workers to assist with insurance and hospital expenses.
Shinhan University plans to strengthen its traffic safety and crime prevention education programs for all international students as a result of this incident. Through these efforts, the university aims to raise safety awareness among international students and provide ongoing support to help them adapt stably to life in Korea.
The remains of the deceased student have been safely repatriated to their home country in accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, and the university maintained close contact with the family, providing sincere support throughout the necessary procedures.
President Kang Sungjong stated, "This accident is truly heartbreaking, and the university is doing everything possible to ensure that the injured students and their families do not face further hardship. We will continue to strengthen our management and support systems to ensure that international students can pursue their studies safely."
