Substitute Driver Sentenced to Suspended Prison Term for Speeding with Customer over Fare Dispute
On November 12, Presiding Judge Jang Chansu of the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 3 sentenced A (44, male), a substitute driver, to four months in prison with a one-year suspended sentence for confining a customer in a vehicle.
A was indicted for driving at high speed for about 14 kilometers, including through downtown Gwangju and a nearby highway, for roughly 20 minutes during a substitute driving job at 10:07 p.m. on December 31 last year, ignoring the customer's (67, male) repeated requests to stop and get out.
According to the indictment, A committed this act because he was upset after arguing with the customer over the fare and could not calm down.
