Angelina Jolie Visits Ukraine: "Constant Drone Threat... Buzzing Sound in the Sky"
"Drones Are Used as a Means to Instill Fear"
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie recently shared her thoughts on her visit to Ukraine, expressing how she acutely felt the threat of Russian drones.
On the 9th (local time), Jolie posted on her Instagram, "I met families living on the front lines," adding, "The threat of drones was constantly and heavily looming. I could hear the buzzing sound from the sky." She continued, "Locals refer to this as a 'human safari,' because drones are relentlessly used as a means to track, hunt, and instill fear in people."
She said, "There were moments when we had to pause and wait as drones flew overhead," and added, "I was wearing protective gear and it was only for a few days, but families here live with this threat every single day," expressing her sorrow. She also shared, "Believing that life must go on, they have moved schools, clinics, and daycare centers into reinforced basements," and "Many people spoke of the psychological burden of living under constant threat, and an even deeper fear of being forgotten by the world."
Jolie went on to say, "It is hard to understand how, in a world with such strong diplomatic capabilities, civilians in so many places-Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of Congo-continue to suffer every day," adding, "It is as if those in power have no way to end these conflicts or protect all civilians equally."
She further stated, "What gives me hope is the incredible courage and capability of local (relief) organizations, volunteers, and those who support them," and urged international leaders to step up their efforts to resolve conflicts, saying, "If they can find the strength, governments should be able to do the same."
Jolie, who is serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, reportedly visited Mykolaiv and Kherson as part of a humanitarian program to assist civilians affected by Russia's invasion.
