Guri City to Close 4th Public Street Parking Lot for Improved Traffic Flow and Enhanced Pedestrian Safety
Guri City to Remove 45 Street Parking Spaces Behind Kyobo Life Insurance Building
New Sidewalk to Be Installed for Improved Pedestrian Safety
Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced on November 7 that it is conducting an administrative notice and collecting public opinions until November 18 regarding the closure of the 4th Public Street Parking Lot (45 spaces) located behind the Kyobo Life Insurance building on Gyeongchun-ro 227beon-gil.
This closure is being carried out in accordance with the traffic management plan for the Inchang C District redevelopment project, which is scheduled for completion in March next year. Following the closure, road maintenance and sidewalk installation work for the area will proceed sequentially.
Currently, although Gyeongchun-ro 227beon-gil, where the 4th Public Street Parking Lot is located, is a two-way side street, constant traffic congestion occurs as parked vehicles and passing vehicles intermingle. In addition, despite heavy pedestrian traffic in the area, there is no sidewalk, leading to ongoing complaints about pedestrian safety.
In response, the city plans to install a median line and reorganize the lanes to improve two-way traffic flow, while also ensuring pedestrian safety by constructing a new sidewalk.
Baek Kyunghyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "Although there may be some initial inconvenience due to the closure of the street parking lot, we expect positive long-term changes, such as improved vehicle flow and enhanced pedestrian safety." He added, "Concerns about a shortage of parking spaces following the closure will be addressed by securing approximately 120 parking spaces near the Guri Station transfer center by February next year."
