"Enhancing Disclosure Reliability to Encourage Increased Corporate Security Investment"
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on November 6 that they have finalized the results of the "2025 Information Security Disclosure Verification," which was conducted to enhance the reliability and transparency of information security disclosures.
In this verification, it was found that 21 out of 40 major companies in the telecommunications and platform sectors needed to amend parts of their disclosures. The verification, which took place over three months from August to November of this year, targeted 40 telecommunications and platform companies that provide services closely related to the daily lives of the public.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and KISA meticulously compared the disclosed information security investments, workforce status, and security certifications and inspection records of each company with the actual status to verify their accuracy.
The verification process involved a "Disclosure Verification Team" composed of professionals with expertise in accounting and auditing. Subsequently, an "Information Security Disclosure Review Committee" consisting of external experts conducted a comprehensive review of the verification results. The committee designated 21 companies for amended disclosures based on a standard where the error rate or rate of change in key items such as investment amount and workforce exceeded 5%.
The companies required to amend their disclosures must submit revised materials and statements of reasons through the Information Security Disclosure Portal by November 14. If they fail to comply within the deadline, an administrative fine of up to 10 million won may be imposed in accordance with the "Act on the Promotion of the Information Security Industry."
Based on the results of this review, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to enhance the reliability of the disclosure system and gradually expand the scope of verification. In addition, the ministry will simultaneously improve guidelines and provide education and consulting support to help companies prevent disclosure errors on their own.
