The festival is hosted by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Wonju City, and organized by the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Economic Promotion Agency.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the festival, and both the scale of the event and its programs have been significantly expanded. In conjunction with the opening of the National Gangwon Specialized Science Museum in November, the festival aims to offer a more professional and enriching experience.
This event, held at the Big Bang Plaza of the science museum, will feature participation from 23 organizations within the province, offering a variety of hands-on programs such as science experiments, AI tuning magic, a virtual reality (VR) bus, and 3D printing. In addition, five science museums from across the country will join the event by setting up exhibition and experience booths.
There will also be a range of science-themed performances, including a science musical, a magic show, a paper airplane performance (WePlay), and sand art. Notably, the Science Career Concert will feature science communicator Kang Sungju (Hangseong) as a speaker, introducing the dreams of humanity heading to space and the perseverance and passion of scientists who have turned impossible ideas into reality.
Wonju City plans to use this event and the opening of the National Gangwon Specialized Science Museum as a springboard to accelerate its expansion as a “science culture city.” The city will continue to discover and promote education and cultural projects based on advanced science and technology.
Won Kangsu, Mayor of Wonju, stated, “This year’s festival, together with the opening of the National Gangwon Specialized Science Museum, will mark a new starting point for Wonju to become not just a city of advanced industries, but also a city where science culture thrives. I hope this will be a meaningful time for children to dream of the future through science, and for citizens to experience advanced technology up close.”
