SMBC Expands 'ISO 14001 Certification' to Training Centers Nationwide
Expanding ESG Management
The Small and Medium Business Corporation announced on November 2 that, after receiving its first ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certification at its headquarters in 2023, it additionally obtained certification for its training centers nationwide on October 31.
ISO 14001 is an international standard that assesses an organization’s management of environmental impacts and compliance with relevant regulations. Through this expanded certification, the Small and Medium Business Corporation stated that it has incorporated key environmental management procedures-such as energy, resource, and waste management, as well as eco-friendly procurement-into the operation of its training centers. The organization also explained that it applies eco-friendly operational principles, including reducing single-use items and recycling, to activities that engage the public, such as education and events.
In particular, under a company-wide ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policy, the Small and Medium Business Corporation is strengthening its internal foundation by establishing environmental management plans and providing ESG education for employees. At the same time, it is expanding environmental management through community-linked eco-friendly initiatives with high public engagement, such as the Green Step Challenge, resource circulation campaigns, and the “Making Gyeongnam Free of Single-Use Items” initiative.
