Man in His 30s Arrested for Earning 220 Million Won from Illegal Online Game Operations
A man in his 30s has been arrested for operating an illegal private server for online games and making unfair profits.
The Gwangju Dongbu Police Station announced on the 31st that it had arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of violating the Game Industry Promotion Act by operating illegal online games and obtaining illicit gains.
Mr. A is accused of setting up a private server from January 2024 to June this year, providing illegal online game content, and earning approximately 220 million won in profits.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A operated a private game server by modifying a popular game, produced and sold in-game items to users, and collected the proceeds through multiple bank accounts under borrowed names.
The police received intelligence related to illegal game operations in May and launched an investigation, identifying Mr. A by tracking the flow of funds. During the process, Mr. B, a game user who lent his bank account to Mr. A, was also booked on charges of aiding and abetting.
