The awards recognize cases that realize "good light" in various fields such as lighting and media facades, which can be appreciated by citizens.
This year marks the 14th edition of the competition. Lotte World Tower received high praise for delivering a sense of public inspiration by utilizing the exterior of a large urban structure.
Lotte World Tower is a landmark representing South Korea and offers an iconic view of Seoul. Through media art that can be enjoyed by anyone in the city, it has provided visual delight to citizens.
In particular, the signature content has been recognized for fostering a sense of national unity by conveying messages that resonate with citizens on national holidays and seasonal themes, such as Lunar New Year, Chuseok, and Christmas.
The signature content is characterized by intuitive designs inspired by symbolic elements of each holiday. For Lunar New Year, it features bright and lively displays using traditional motifs such as the character for fortune (福), kites, and saekdong jeogori (traditional multicolored jackets). During the spring cherry blossom season, scenes of falling blossoms are displayed across the tower's facade.
For Valentine's Day and White Day, a romantic atmosphere is created with various heart symbols. On Chuseok, a cute scene of the moon rabbit pounding rice cakes is presented. On national holidays, large Taegeuk patterns and waving national flags are displayed, while at Christmas, the world's largest Christmas tree, Santa Claus, and Rudolph are featured, offering citizens new delights each season.
