Gwanak District in Seoul (Mayor Park Junhee) was selected as the top institution among all autonomous districts nationwide in the “2024 Local Government Innovation Assessment” hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and received the Prime Minister's Commendation.

View original imageHaving been recognized as an excellent institution for three consecutive years since 2022, Gwanak District once again demonstrated its leading role in innovation policy by achieving the highest score among all autonomous districts in this year’s assessment. The evaluation comprehensively reviewed the innovation capacity, achievements, and public perception of 243 local governments across the country, focusing on 11 detailed indicators.
Gwanak District received high marks for embedding a culture of innovation throughout the organization, including the “innovative leadership of the head of the institution,” the operation of the Deobeoleutdeum Gwanak Innovation and Governance Committee, and the establishment of an active administration performance reward system.
Additionally, Gwanak District’s top score was attributed to outstanding examples of innovation such as solving livelihood issues through field-oriented communication, administrative innovation based on digital and artificial intelligence, youth-friendly policies, the creation of the Gwanak S-Valley to support venture companies, the nation’s first real-time tracking and monitoring system for missing children, the operation of “Dementia Safe Playground (Noliteo),” and the development of S-Specialized Streets.
