View original imageThe Maronie Women's Writing Contest, which began in 1983 and marks its 43rd edition this year, is the oldest women's writing competition in South Korea. Any woman can participate free of charge, and participants choose one category-poetry, prose, or children's literature-based on the given writing prompts. The event is organized by the Arts Council Korea and sponsored by the Sooseok Cultural Foundation, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, Dong-A ST, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It aims to broaden the base of women in literature and to promote literary creative activities.
The selected prompts for the 43rd Maronie Women's Writing Contest were: ▲Pierrot ▲Trash ▲Sweet ▲Glasses. Participants wrote their submissions on manuscript paper distributed at the venue. This year, a record 1,246 participants took part, marking the highest number of contestants in the contest's history.
A total of 29 prizes were awarded, including three Grand Prizes, three Excellence Prizes, nine Encouragement Prizes, and fourteen Honorable Mentions. The Grand Prize winners were Cha Eunji (Poetry), Won Jiho (Prose), and Kim Jooyoung (Children's Literature). The winning works will be published in an anthology and released on the Munhak Plaza website and Brunch Story.
At the awards ceremony, Baek Sanghwan, CEO of Dong-A Pharmaceutical, stated, "Through the Maronie Women's Writing Contest, we will continue to discover talented women writers and strive to further illuminate women's literature."

Meanwhile, Dong-A Pharmaceutical received a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2023 in recognition of its contributions to the development of literature and the arts in South Korea.
