'Cradle of Robot Talent' International Robot Contest Opens at Gangneung Olympic Park
The Largest Robot Competition in Korea
A Platform for Industry Advancement and International Exchange
Enhancing Technology through Fostering Talent and Spreading Robot Awareness
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on October 30 that the 20th International Robot Contest, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, will be held at Gangneung Olympic Park (Speed Skating Arena) for two days from October 31 to November 1.
This event aims to enhance domestic robot technology by spreading robot awareness and fostering talent in the field. It has been held annually in the Seoul metropolitan area (KINTEX in Ilsan), but this year, Gangneung Olympic Park was selected through a regional bidding process, marking the first time a local government is hosting this significant competition.
The contest is the largest robot competition in Korea, with more than 3,300 participants (2,000 competitors and 1,300 family members and spectators), and welcomes a wide range of participants from elementary, middle, and high school students to university students and the general public. The event consists of 12 sub-competitions and 42 categories, providing a platform for both domestic and international participants to promote the development of the robot industry and foster international exchange.
The International Robot Contest is a global competition where participants test the performance and capabilities of robots built to suit various themes and rules. During the event, a variety of side programs will also be offered for visitors, including a robot camp, artificial intelligence (AI) drawing caricatures, hands-on robot-making experiences, and a robot talk concert.
A total of around 140 awards and prizes will be presented, including the Presidential Award, Prime Minister's Award, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor's Award, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Superintendent of Education Award, and Gangneung Mayor's Award.
