The on-site inspection, conducted on October 28, was prompted by the lithium-ion battery fire accident that occurred at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon in September. The purpose was to proactively examine fire risk factors at similar IT facilities in the region.
On this day, Taewon Park, Chief of the Sejong Fire Department, focused on inspecting the following at the site: the uninterruptible power supply (UPS), lithium-ion battery equipment, computer rooms and emergency power facilities, gas-based fire suppression systems and the maintenance and management status of evacuation and fire protection facilities, the fire monitoring system in the disaster prevention room, and the organization and response system of the self-firefighting team.
In particular, the department shared the initial response case from the National Information Resources Service fire, while also providing site-specific advice such as procedures for the self-firefighting team's initial actions in the event of a fire at the Registration Information Center and strategies for establishing cooperation systems with fire stations.
Chief Park emphasized, "Data centers are core infrastructure that underpin the national information network and citizens' daily lives. Since rapid initial response and a prevention-oriented management system determine the extent of damage in the event of a fire, all stakeholders must remain vigilant and thoroughly prepared."
