The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced that it had received a report from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute stating that the research reactor "HANARO" automatically shut down at approximately 01:09 on October 28.
This incident was reported to have occurred due to the operation of the reactor control system, which is responsible for regulating or shutting down the reactor’s output.

The commission explained that HANARO is currently in a stable condition and confirmed that there are no radiation safety concerns. The Daejeon Regional Office of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission immediately inspected the site for safety following the incident, and plans to dispatch experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety for a detailed investigation.
