Medical Volunteer Services Provided for Foreign Workers in the Region
Special Lecture Delivered on the Topic of 'Suicide Prevention'
Soonchunhyang University Gumi Hospital (Director: Min Kyungdae) conducted a medical volunteer service on October 25 at its Comprehensive Health Promotion Center, providing care for about 150 foreign workers residing in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, and nearby areas.
This volunteer event was organized based on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Soonchunhyang University Medical Center and the Embassy of Cambodia in Korea. The event aimed to put into practice Soonchunhyang’s founding philosophy of ‘Love for Humanity and Respect for Life’ and to contribute to improving the health of foreign workers in the local community.
A total of about 44 people participated in the medical volunteer service, including Kim Sungho, head of the medical volunteer group and professor of neurosurgery, Professor Park Yunseon (gastroenterology), Professor Jeon Dongsu (obstetrics and gynecology), Professor Ahn Daehyung (dentistry), Professor Kang Seunglim (radiology), as well as the nursing department, radiology team, laboratory medicine team, and pharmacy team, providing various medical services to foreign workers.
Medical volunteer services were provided by a total of about 44 participants, including Kim Sungho, head of the medical volunteer group and professor of neurosurgery, as well as key clinical department professors such as Park Yunseon, professor of gastroenterology, Jeon Dongsu, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, Ahn Daehyung, professor of dentistry, and Kang Seungrim, professor of radiology, along with the nursing department, radiology team, laboratory medicine team, and pharmacy team, offering various medical services to foreign workers. View original imageThe medical services included a wide range of examinations such as abdominal ultrasound, gynecological ultrasound, bone density tests, electrocardiograms, blood and urine tests, blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, chest X-rays, and oral examinations. Free dental scaling and pharmaceutical support were also provided, offering practical help to foreign workers with limited access to healthcare.
Additionally, Baek Seungju, a social worker from the Gumi Mental Health Welfare Center, delivered a special lecture on ‘suicide prevention,’ providing foreign workers with support for psychological stability and healthy social adaptation.

Kim Sungho, head of the medical volunteer group, stated, “I hope that foreign workers living in unfamiliar environments found comfort and took care of their health through this volunteer event,” adding, “We will continue to share warm-hearted medical care together with the local community in the future.”
