View original imagePresident Lee Jae-myung and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia have agreed to launch a joint task force, the "Korea Task Force," dedicated to handling cases involving Korean nationals, such as scam crimes, starting in November.
Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced this at a briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit is being held. The two leaders agreed to finalize the dispatch and operational procedures for Korean police officers within the task force in the near future.
Spokesperson Kang stated, "President Lee expressed his appreciation for the cooperation provided by the Cambodian side in the recent process of repatriating Korean nationals involved in scam crimes and protecting victims," adding, "He also emphasized the need for active cooperation between the two countries for an effective joint response."

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet explained, "Cambodia's public security has significantly improved due to strong measures against transnational crimes, including recent crackdowns on scam criminals." President Lee then stated, "With the launch of the task force, I will instruct a review of lowering travel advisories for certain areas, including Phnom Penh."
