Kim Taeheum: "Asan Will Be the Center of Police and Medical Hubs"
Construction of Police Hospital, Attraction of Police Academy, and GTX Extension
Kim Taeheum Presents Vision for Asan as a Future City
Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, is launching a series of major projects to transform Asan into a 'police and medical hub city.'
Following the approval of the police hospital project through the preliminary feasibility study, significant initiatives such as attracting the Second Central Police Academy, extending the GTX-C line, and designating the Chungnam Free Economic Zone are gaining momentum.
The Chungnam provincial government is making every effort to secure Asan's future growth engines by focusing on the construction of the police hospital and attracting the Second Central Police Academy.
On October 21, Governor Kim visited Asan City in his fourth year of the 8th popularly elected administration, directly communicating with residents and sharing development strategies.
Governor Kim stated, "The construction of the police hospital will become a new milestone for public healthcare in western Chungnam," and added, "By also attracting the Second Central Police Academy, we will elevate Asan as the center of police education and healthcare in Korea."
The police hospital, to be built on 81,118 square meters of state-owned land within the Asan Police Complex Town, will be constructed with 172.4 billion won in national funding, featuring 24 medical departments and 300 beds.
After being selected as the final candidate site in December 2022 and passing the preliminary feasibility study in August 2024, the project has entered full-scale implementation. Once opened, the hospital is expected to expand public healthcare services, strengthen police welfare, and revitalize the local economy.
Asan also holds a favorable position in the competition to attract the Second Central Police Academy. This is due to the strong educational and training synergy created by its proximity to the Police University, the Police Human Resources Development Institute, and the Police Investigation Training Institute, all located within the police complex town, as well as its excellent transportation accessibility connecting the Seoul metropolitan area with Yeongho-nam.
Additionally, the province plans to invest 3.4809 trillion won by 2033 to gradually establish the 'Chungnam Free Economic Zone' across five districts (13.3 square kilometers) including Asan, Cheonan, Seosan, and Dangjin. The Asan Inju District will focus on the display and mobility industries, while the Dunpo District is being promoted as a semiconductor-specialized zone.
The extension of the GTX-C line from Suseo to Onyang Oncheon (69.9 km) is also becoming a reality. Once completed, it will enable travel from Cheonan and Asan to Seoul's Samseong Station in under one hour, creating a new living sphere connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungnam.
