Kim Minpyo: "We Will Commercialize Robots Specialized for Agriculture"
Doosan Robotics, a company specializing in collaborative robots, is entering the agricultural robotics market by partnering with Daedong Corporation, an agricultural machinery company. Expanding its robotics business-which had previously focused on manufacturing and logistics-into agriculture, Doosan Robotics will develop next-generation robots that combine 'on-device artificial intelligence (AI)' technology, enabling the machines to make decisions and operate autonomously.
On October 20, Doosan Robotics announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Daedong Corporation for the 'joint development of on-device AI technology and business cooperation in the agricultural robotics sector.' Through this agreement, the two companies will collaborate on: ▲ developing field robots optimized for smart farms and outdoor agricultural environments; ▲ developing and commercializing on-device AI technology applicable to unstructured agricultural environments; and ▲ pioneering the global market for field robots.

Mobile robots refer to next-generation robots that combine autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) with robotic arms, allowing them to move and perform complex tasks. Doosan Robotics will be responsible for designing and manufacturing robotic arms and control systems, as well as developing robot motion. Daedong Corporation will handle the design and manufacturing of autonomous mobility platforms based on a wide range of agricultural field data, conduct demonstrations and advancements, obtain safety certifications, and respond to overseas regulations.
The two companies also plan to jointly develop on-device AI technology with human-level recognition capabilities and cooperate in the government-led 'AI System-on-Chip (SoC)' development project. On-device AI runs artificial intelligence functions directly on the device, not on a cloud server, enabling real-time service without an internet connection, while offering strong privacy protection and fast response times. Doosan Robotics plans to standardize key elements such as the performance, functionality, and interface of SoCs for robotic applications, and will directly develop AI algorithms and firmware (control programs).
