From 2026, the city will be re-certified as an international senior-friendly city by the World Health Organization for the next five years. To commemorate this achievement and promote its status as an international city, Yeoju City held the WHO re-certification ceremony together with its citizens.
The event began with cultural performances by different generations, followed by a vision proclamation ceremony and congratulatory performances. In particular, the vision proclamation included the reading of the senior-friendly city declaration, the presentation and delivery of the certification, and the proclamation button ceremony, with participation from all generations, adding to its significance.
Mayor Lee Chungwoo stated, "With the proclamation of Yeoju City's re-certification as a senior-friendly city, we will continue our efforts to realize the five major vision strategies of Yeoju Senior-Friendly City 2.0: a city of inclusion where all generations are respected, balanced development of transportation and housing accessible to everyone, creation of diverse job opportunities and expansion of cultural and leisure activities for seniors, a comfortable and safe external environment and living safety for seniors, and the enhancement of health and community care."
