Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced on the 16th that it held the "19th Regular Meeting of the Gyeonggi Province Mayors and County Governors Council for Development Restriction Zone Policy Advancement" on the 15th to discuss improvements to systems related to development restriction zones and the advancement of related policies.

View original imageThis meeting was held at Hoeryong Hall in Uijeongbu City Hall. Mayors, county governors, and deputy heads from 11 cities and counties in the province that include development restriction zones (Uijeongbu, Gwacheon, Yangpyeong, Gwangju, Hanam, Hwaseong, Namyangju, Anyang, Yangju, Uiwang, and Guri) attended to share local issues and discuss directions for system improvement.
Presided over by Mayor Kim Donggeun, the fifth chairperson of the council, the meeting addressed major agenda items, including: ▲ Uijeongbu City's "System Improvement for Installing Residential Area Infrastructure within Development Restriction Zones," ▲ Yangju City's "Allowing the Installation of Rural Stay-Type Shelters within Farmland," and ▲ Guri City's "Regulatory Improvement for Deferring Imposition of Enforcement Fines." These items were reported and either approved as originally proposed or with amendments. It was decided that these proposals would be submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through Gyeonggi Province.
The fifth council has identified and proposed a total of 14 system improvement measures through five regular meetings. These include cases that have led to actual policy changes, such as the "Establishment of Guidelines for the Partial Lifting of Small Areas within Returned U.S. Military Bases and Surrounding Areas," which have made substantial contributions to improving residents' living environments.
Meanwhile, at the meeting, Mayor Kim Donggeun was reappointed as the sixth chairperson of the council.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Gyeonggi Province Mayors and County Governors Council for Development Restriction Zone Policy Advancement has identified a total of 117 system improvement proposals, 14 of which have led to amendments of relevant laws and 7 have resulted in the submission of legislative bills, thus serving as a bridge to communicate local voices to the central government and the National Assembly.
