Wanju County to Host 'Bukjeok Bukjeok Festival' on the 18th

Wanju County in North Jeolla Province will host the 12th Buk(Book)jeok Buk(Book)jeok Festival on October 18 at the Wanju County Central Library and surrounding areas.

According to the county on October 14, this year’s festival will be held under the slogan “Kind Books, Bustling Stories,” and is recognized as Wanju’s representative reading festival where books, people, and stories come together.

The Bukjeokbukjeok Festival, now in its 12th year, is Wanju County’s signature book festival, co-hosted by Wanju County and the Wanju Reading Knowledge City Promotion Committee (Chairman Kim Seontae). This year’s festival will feature a variety of programs aimed at connecting generations and communities through books, creating a vibrant book culture event that all county residents can enjoy.

Main programs include: a reading performance of Wanju County’s Book of the Year, “The Ever-Kind Porridge Shop”; a special lecture by author Kim Minseop; the “Read to Me” campaign in collaboration with the National Library for Children and Young Adults; 20 different hands-on experience programs; performances by the band Shinnaneunseom and a cotton candy show; and a flea market.

In particular, experience programs linked to the children’s Book of the Year, “The Ever-Kind Porridge Shop,” are drawing attention. These include “Sending Messages to the Kitchen Friends of the Ever-Kind Porridge Shop,” the heartwarming book curation “The Ever-Kind Book House,” and a photo zone titled “Today, the Porridge You Need.” There will also be activities related to the adult Book of the Year, “Following a Small Light,” such as making masking tape bookmarks using quotes from the book.

Additionally, the “Read to Me” campaign, held in cooperation with the National Library for Children and Young Adults, will feature reading sessions by picture book authors Kim Hyeyoung, Hwang Jinhee, Kim Seongbeom, and Lee Beom; storytelling by children’s book narrators; mini book making; AR book cards; a book-themed board game experience; and other family-friendly programs. Families participating in SNS events and surveys will also receive commemorative gifts.
