The city has been cultivating badminton, a sport easily enjoyed by people of all ages, as its representative community sport and holds this tournament annually to broaden the foundation for community athletics.
The tournament was divided into women's doubles and mixed doubles categories, with a total of 54 events, including elite mixed doubles, age group divisions (60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s), and elementary school divisions (upper and lower grades). Participants competed fiercely in an orderly and fair atmosphere, with constant cheers and applause from the audience.
The opening ceremony was attended by key figures such as Mayor Joo Kwangdeok, Namyangju City Council members, the executive director of the Namyangju Sports Association, and the president of the Namyangju Badminton Association, who encouraged the athletes and expressed their ongoing commitment to supporting the development of local sports.
The city noted that the tournament facilitated active exchanges among badminton enthusiasts and promoted intergenerational harmony. In particular, it is expected that women's participation in community sports will further increase. Additionally, the event is seen as an opportunity for citizens to take greater interest in and actively participate in various community sports activities.
Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "It is meaningful that badminton enthusiasts were able to spend time exchanging and building unity," and added, "The city will continue to focus on building sports facilities and providing administrative support so that community sports can naturally become a part of citizens' daily lives."
