Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Strikes Western Sichuan, China... Largest in Region in Five Years
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 struck Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, located in the southwestern plateau region of Sichuan Province, China. The magnitude of this earthquake was the largest among those recorded in the past five years.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center on October 9, the depth of the earthquake’s epicenter was analyzed to be 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located near Xinlong County in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, at latitude 30.84 degrees north and longitude 99.86 degrees east.
Ganzi, known for its rugged mountainous terrain, borders Yunnan Province to the south and Tibet to the west.

The China Earthquake Networks Center stated that, over the past five years, there have been 23 earthquakes with a magnitude of 3 or higher within a 200-kilometer radius of the epicenter near Xinlong County.
