Woori Financial Management Research Institute Signs Research Cooperation MOU with Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences
Promoting Joint Research
to Expand Mutual Cooperation in Climate Finance
Woori Financial Management Research Institute, under Woori Financial Group, announced on October 2 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for research cooperation in the field of climate finance with the Institute of Human Geography and Sustainable Development (IHS), which operates under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences serves as the representative think tank of the Vietnamese government, overseeing more than 30 policy research institutions under the Prime Minister.
This MOU was signed amid strengthening friendly relations between the two countries, and aligns with the expansion of cooperation in renewable energy and science and technology agreed upon at the Korea-Vietnam summit in August.
Through this agreement, Woori Financial Management Research Institute aims to support Vietnam’s successful transition to a low-carbon economy, explore group-level business collaboration opportunities, and continuously expand its overseas research network.
Following the agreement, last month Woori Financial Management Research Institute and the Institute of Human Geography and Sustainable Development jointly hosted a seminar on the introduction and operation of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) in both countries, as well as the roles of government and the private sector in activating the market.
In addition, the two organizations plan to pursue joint research on the implementation of a low-carbon economy, green and transition finance, and climate finance in general. They will also regularize seminars and workshops to continue sharing outcomes.
Park Junghoon, CEO of Woori Financial Management Research Institute, stated, "At a time when global cooperation to address climate change is more important than ever, we will do our utmost to ensure that this partnership with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences serves as a bridgehead for revitalizing climate finance exchanges between the two countries."
