[Photo] Gwangju Holds Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony... Presents "Cheongnyeojang" Staffs
On September 30, the city of Gwangju held a ceremony to commemorate the 29th Senior Citizens' Day at the Namgu Multipurpose Gymnasium in Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, with Mayor Kang Gijung and over 1,000 local seniors in attendance. During the event, the city presented the government-issued "Cheongnyeojang" (a light and sturdy staff made from ramie grass) to 62 seniors who turned 100 this year, wishing them health and longevity. Meanwhile, Gwangju continues to implement welfare policies aimed at improving the quality of life for seniors, including the creation of an age-friendly city, expansion of basic pension and senior job support, enhancement of safety and care services, and the development of welfare infrastructure for the elderly.
