Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to Officially Launch on October 1
Two Vice Ministers, Four Offices, Four Bureaus, Fourteen Divisions, and Sixty-Three Departments Established
On September 30, the Ministry of Environment announced that it will launch the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment on October 1, in order to implement its vision for a transition to a decarbonized green civilization.
The newly established Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment will integrate the overall function of climate policy and the energy function, which is a key means of achieving carbon neutrality. The ministry will be organized with two vice ministers, four offices, four bureaus, fourteen divisions, and sixty-three departments. Following approval by the Cabinet on this day, it will be promulgated and take effect immediately on October 1. The organizational structure has been designed to allow climate, energy, and environmental policies-such as greenhouse gas reduction, expansion of renewable energy, improvement of environmental quality, and response to climate disasters-to be organically connected.
Under the First Vice Minister, the Planning and Coordination Office, Water Management Policy Office, and the bureaus of Nature Conservation, Air Environment, Resource Circulation, and Environmental Health will be organized. These units will focus on core environmental policies included in the new government's national agenda, such as restoring river naturalness and ecosystems, reducing fine dust, building a circular economy, and ensuring chemical safety, while expanding environmental services that the public can directly experience.
Under the Second Vice Minister, the Climate and Energy Policy Office and the Energy Transition Policy Office will be organized to maximize the synergistic effects of integrating climate and energy policies. The ministry will accelerate the implementation of a dramatic expansion of renewable energy for energy transition, the construction of an energy superhighway, and the fostering of carbon-neutral industries.
The Climate and Energy Policy Office will include the Climate and Energy Policy Division, Green Transition Policy Division, Hydrogen and Thermal Industry Policy Division, and International Cooperation Division. The Energy Transition Policy Office will include the Power Industry Policy Division, Power Grid Policy Division, Renewable Energy Policy Division, and Nuclear Power Industry Policy Division.
