"No Tolerance for Wage Arrears for Construction Workers Ahead of Chuseok"... Gyeongbuk Office of Education Steps Up Prevention Efforts
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on September 30 that it is making every effort to prevent wage arrears for workers at school facility construction sites and various other construction sites ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
Since 2020, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has been operating a year-round reporting center to prevent wage arrears in school facility construction. In preparation for this Chuseok, the office is taking proactive measures to ensure prompt payment for construction and supply contracts.
Before the Chuseok holiday, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education is expediting the execution of construction payments and inspecting wage payment statuses to ensure that workers can celebrate the holiday without experiencing wage arrears. Construction supervisors are completing inspections and final acceptances quickly, while guidance and supervision are being strengthened to ensure payments are made within the deadlines.
In particular, following the recent fire at the National Information Resources Service, which caused a service interruption in the Nara Marketplace payment system, the office plans to resume the use of the "Subcontractor Keeper" electronic management system for subcontractor payments. In the event of system errors, companies will be allowed to submit payment claims manually to ensure there are no delays in payments.
Additionally, if workers do experience wage arrears, they are being informed that they can receive prompt relief through the dedicated wage arrears reporting center at the local employment and labor office.
