The IBS Center for Quantum Convergence Research, located on the GIST campus, is closely collaborating with the GIST Department of Chemistry based on their geographical proximity and complementary research strengths. Through joint workshops, sharing of research achievements, and student exchanges, they are exploring new application possibilities in nano, molecular, and surface-scale research.
The workshop, held on the 26th in Room 110 of Building C at the university, was attended by about 30 faculty members from the GIST Department of Chemistry and researchers from the IBS Center for Quantum Convergence Research. The event provided an opportunity to deepen and expand future research collaboration.
By sharing the expertise and research resources of GIST and IBS, the institutions aim to create academic synergy that enhances research efficiency and creativity. In addition, exchanges among student researchers are expected to foster the next generation of research leaders.
Seo Jiweon, Head of the GIST Department of Chemistry, said, "Since the IBS research center is nearby, frequent communication among researchers can lead to unexpected ideas, which will naturally develop into collaborative research."
Kim Yoosu, Director of the IBS Center (and professor at the GIST Department of Chemistry), stated, "The Center for Quantum Convergence Research has a deep connection with the Department of Chemistry. Through this workshop, we hope to overcome the limitations of nano-scale research at the atomic and molecular levels and discover new topics for joint research."

Meanwhile, the IBS Center for Quantum Convergence Research, established on September 1 last year with GIST as its base, is exploring fundamental issues in basic science such as energy conversion, electron and spin dynamics, and molecular and surface interactions by utilizing the quantum properties of matter. In particular, by elucidating quantum phenomena at the atomic and molecular level using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and molecular spectroscopy techniques, the center is laying the foundation for next-generation energy and information materials research.
