Seongnam City Receives Minister's Commendation at National Spatial Information Excellence Project Evaluation
The Only Local Government Honored
Building a Safer Future for Seongnam with Drones
The "Drone-Based 3D Underground Infrastructure Data Construction Project" promoted by Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sangjin), has received the Minister's Commendation at the "National Spatial Information Execution Excellence Project Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Seongnam City was highly praised for utilizing drones to build precise 3D data of underground infrastructure and for establishing a foundation for Digital Twin technology. Among local governments, Seongnam City was the only recipient of the Minister's Commendation in this evaluation.
The 3D underground infrastructure data refers to visually three-dimensional information on urban infrastructure, such as underground sewage pipelines and road covering structures, acquired precisely using drones and LiDAR surveying equipment. This data can be used for detailed analysis and simulation, as well as in various fields such as smart cities and Digital Twin applications.
This project drew particular attention for minimizing errors that can occur during manual investigations and for enabling rapid and safe surveys of hazardous areas that are difficult to access, using drones. It is significant in that it reduces risks such as suffocation accidents that may occur when personnel conduct investigations in confined spaces, while achieving both work automation and enhanced safety.
