View original imageDamyang County, led by County Governor Jeong Cheolwon, announced on September 24 that it had conducted a joint safety inspection at traditional markets within the county on the 22nd, ahead of the Chuseok holiday, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeollanam-do.
This inspection was initiated as a result of a sisterhood agreement signed last August between Damyang County and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, aimed at revitalizing the local economy in regions facing population decline. On this day, the Director of the Safety Prevention Policy Office from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety attended the event to discuss disaster and accident prevention measures, including improving housing conditions for foreign workers and designing flood prevention systems for rivers during heavy rainfall.
In celebration of Chuseok, the delegation visited the sisterhood region, purchased local specialties, and organized a traditional market shopping event to help boost the local economy. Additionally, they donated fire extinguishers and power strips with built-in circuit breakers for electrical safety, urging the safe operation of the markets.
In particular, with this year’s Chuseok holiday spanning 10 days and a significant increase in visitors and tourists expected, the team focused on inspecting fire-prone areas such as electrical wiring management, gas facility safety, and securing fire lanes, based on the results of a joint public-private inspection conducted on the 16th. Alongside the merchants’ association, they also discussed fire prevention and rapid response measures, thoroughly checking the safety management status of each facility.
