"Improving Residents' Quality of Life" ... Jinhae District Focuses on Safety, Welfare, and Daily Infrastructure
A Safe City, Comprehensive Welfare, and Infrastructure Upgrades
Jinhae District in Changwon Special City, South Gyeongsang Province, is implementing a range of policies to enhance resident safety and improve quality of life. These initiatives include disaster preparedness, establishing a comprehensive welfare safety net, and upgrading daily life infrastructure, all aimed at making Jinhae a safer and more livable city.
To prepare for natural disasters, Jinhae District systematically inspects and restores key disaster-prone areas such as underpasses and steep slopes, and has established an emergency response system to prevent accidents. Major river disaster recovery and dredging projects have been completed, and the district plans to extend the stability and lifespan of facilities by repairing and reinforcing bridges such as the Yongwon-dong drainage culvert and Anpyeong 1 Bridge.
In addition, the district will strengthen safety inspections for 112 small-scale apartment complexes that are not subject to the third-class facility status survey, aiming to eliminate blind spots in safety management.
In celebration of Chuseok, Jinhae District is taking the lead in fostering a spirit of sharing, eliminating welfare blind spots, and strengthening the local safety net.
Through an MOU with Busan Port Authority, the district will use the 15 million won in support to improve the residential and learning environments of 10 to 15 children from low-income families. Ahead of Chuseok, various private donations will be used to deliver Samgyetang, groceries, snacks, and ramen (worth approximately 11.3 million won) to underprivileged groups.
During the holiday period, the district will provide consolation funds and goods to low-income households, national merit recipients, and social welfare facilities, ensuring a warm holiday season for all.
Jinhae District is also comprehensively upgrading transportation infrastructure, roads, parks, walking trails, and sports facilities frequently used by residents to improve convenience.
This year, the district has added 217 new shared parking spaces, bringing the total to 733. It is also enhancing pedestrian safety through lane improvements in the New Port area, installing ground-level pedestrian signals at Seokdong 3 Square, and replacing sidewalk blocks in the Jaeun-dong and Jangcheon-dong areas.
Additionally, the district will replace old playground equipment and flooring at Dongbu Children’s Park, connect the partially disconnected Dongcheon walking trail to provide a safer and more convenient rest area, replace the artificial turf at the Taebaek-dong Sports Park futsal field, and install a solar power system at Byeokhaejeong Archery Field to achieve both environmental and economic benefits.
Jinhae District aims to become a city where residents can enjoy both safety and charm throughout all four seasons. Through these policies-focused on safety measures, building a welfare safety net, and improving living infrastructure-the district is enhancing residents’ quality of life and urban competitiveness, transforming Jinhae into a “city you want to stay in.”
