Architecture Students Win Busan Mayor's Award
with Creative Ideas
Student teams from National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) delivered outstanding performances at the 2025 Busan International Architectural Design Workshop, winning the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Award and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch President's Award from the Architectural Institute of Korea.

View original imageAt the awards ceremony for the 2025 Busan International Architectural Design Workshop, held at BEXCO on September 17, the team of Kim Soyeon, An Sungmin, Choi Suhwa, and Park Kyungyun, majoring in architecture, received the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Award. The team of Kwon Dokyung, Park Kyungho, Seol Jungyun, and Jeong Minjae received the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch President's Award from the Architectural Institute of Korea.
The Busan International Architectural Design Workshop is an annual international architecture event that has been held since 2003. It serves as an experimental design platform that explores various ideas on urban and architectural issues.
This year, from June 30 to July 1, the event was held at Domohon under the theme "Connection and Communication: Urban-Architectural Integrated Plan for the Bujeon Station Area." Eighteen teams, consisting of nine architects from the Busan region and 72 architecture students from Korea and abroad, participated in the workshop.
At this competition, the team of Kim Soyeon, An Sungmin, Choi Suhwa, and Park Kyungyun received the highest evaluation among all participating teams for their project "INTER FACE TO FACE; Facing Memories," which proposed urban architectural ideas for the Bujeon Station area that encompass both time and space.
Meanwhile, the team of Kwon Dokyung, Park Kyungho, Seol Jungyun, and Jeong Minjae was recognized for their project "Train NET," which emphasized spatial and cultural connections with the areas surrounding Bujeon Station.

The Department of Architecture at National Pukyong University was the first among universities in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions to receive full accreditation from the Korea Architectural Accrediting Board in 2008. After achieving its fourth accreditation last year, the department has continuously maintained the highest-level accreditation through 2030, earning recognition as a leading program for nurturing talented architecture professionals.
