Taebaek City to Allow Taxi Fare Payments with "Tantan Pay" Starting in October
Enhancing Citizen Convenience
and Revitalizing the Local Economy
Taebaek City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Lee Sangho) announced on September 24 that, starting October 1, card-type local currency “Tantan Pay” will be accepted for payment in all registered taxis within the city.
Previously available only at restaurants, retail stores, and similar establishments, Tantan Pay will now be applicable for taxi fare payments as well, and is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by connecting transportation and commercial districts.
In particular, incentives will be accumulated and used in the same way when making payments, so the activation of the local currency and the expansion of tangible economic benefits for citizens are expected to be achieved simultaneously.
The city anticipates that this measure will have multiple effects, including improving convenience for citizens using public transportation, ensuring stable income for the taxi industry, and revitalizing neighborhood businesses.
