DB Insurance Secures Exclusive Usage Rights for "Special Rider Supporting Legal Consultation Fees in Pedestrian Accidents"
DB Insurance announced on September 23 that it has obtained a three-month exclusive usage right for the “Special Rider for Legal Consultation Fee Support in Pedestrian Accidents,” which was launched on its auto insurance policies on August 21.
The New Product Review Committee of the General Insurance Association of Korea recently granted the rider a three-month exclusive usage right, recognizing its originality and usefulness. The committee highly evaluated the discovery of new risks and efforts to incorporate them into insurance products.
Pedestrian accidents often place the burden of responsibility on drivers, leading to many drivers feeling unfairly treated. To resolve this, drivers often seek advice online through internet searches or traffic accident communities, but most of the advice comes from non-experts, making it difficult to find practical solutions. Since the Dispute Mediation Committee of the General Insurance Association only reviews disputes involving vehicle-to-vehicle accidents, DB Insurance identified a gap in mediation for pedestrian accident disputes and developed this new rider to address it.
The rider can be added to an auto insurance policy at the time of enrollment. If the insured is involved in a pedestrian accident (including bicycle and personal mobility device accidents) and requires a legal opinion from a lawyer regarding civil or criminal liability, the rider provides reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a legal consultation letter, up to 500,000 won for one occurrence.

A representative from DB Insurance stated, “Pedestrian accidents can happen to anyone, but drivers often face difficulties because there is nowhere to turn for legal assistance during accident disputes. This rider was developed to allow customers to receive professional legal advice at an affordable premium, thereby increasing consumer benefits and helping reduce unnecessary lawsuits and social costs.”
