The Public Service Design Outstanding Project Performance Sharing Conference, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, is a participatory policy development model in which citizens and administrative agencies co-design policies centered on user needs. It has been held annually since 2014.
Pukyong National University, together with Professors Hong Dongsik and Nam Yuntae from the Visual Design major, students Kwon Doeun, Kim Yujeong, Kim Chaerin, Park Yujin, Baek Jiyeon, Lee Nahyeon, Lee Seungbin, Lee Yeeun, Jeong Hyeji, Choi Sumyeong, Choi Yejin, Choi Juwon, Cheon Jiin, and Ha Yoon, as well as Design Naeil CEO Kim Dongho and researcher Choi Soyoon as service designers, received awards for four public service design policy projects. This achievement was recognized as an outstanding example of industry-academia collaboration.
The Gold Award-winning project was a policy task for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. It was highly praised for proposing 'Connecting the Local,' a marine education and experience program designed to enhance the emotional bonds and local pride of students at Jangsaengpo Elementary School, who are geographically separated due to the port facilities of Ulsan Port Authority.
The Excellence Award-winning projects included: 'Seomseom Ondang (You Who Came to the Island),' which established a welfare model for exchanges between the mainland and islands for Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do; a model for improving public transportation for commuting to and from industrial complexes through community-based statistics and citizen participation for the Gyeongin Regional Statistics Office of Statistics Korea; and 'Bogo·ON,' a linked service to convert forest recreation area visitors into local tourists for the National Center for Forest Recreation under the Korea Forest Service.
The Pukyong National University and Design Naeil team was also recognized as a model case for developing policies and improving services that genuinely resonate with the public, as they produced videos to effectively communicate the objectives and results of each project.
