View original imageThe West Sea Regional Coast Guard announced on September 22 that it has newly revised the "Joint Response Manual for Marine Hazardous Weather" in collaboration with the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, aiming to prevent maritime accidents in a more scientific and systematic manner.
The joint response manual, which was created in 2023, previously focused on weather information related to "high seas warnings." In this revision, information on "sea fog" has been added. The manual has also been supplemented by including guidelines on equipment checks and accident prevention and response, utilizing a meteorological information platform.
Accordingly, starting today, the West Sea Regional Coast Guard and the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration plan to visit all 25 local police substations in the jurisdiction to provide direct training, ensuring that patrol vessel and substation personnel fully understand the newly revised joint response manual for marine hazardous weather.
Meanwhile, while the West Sea Regional Coast Guard and the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration operated a joint task force specializing in marine meteorology from November 2023 to May 2024, the number of maritime accidents during the same period decreased from 15 to 2 compared to the previous year. From March to July this year, joint preventive activities were carried out to reduce major maritime accidents involving casualties, such as collisions and capsizing caused by sea fog.
