Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on September 22 that it has officially begun the process of establishing a national and public daycare center specializing in children with disabilities, with the goal of opening in April 2026.
The city will conduct a public recruitment notice for consignment operators until October 15, following the approval of the "Agreement on Consignment of National and Public Daycare Center for Children with Disabilities" at the 319th temporary session of the Gwangju City Council held on September 15.
The application period runs from October 13 to 15. Eligible applicants are either corporations or organizations with their main office in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province, or individuals with resident registration in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province. Detailed information can be found in the public notice section of the Gwangju City Hall website.
The new national and public daycare center for children with disabilities will be located on the first floor of the Songjeong-dong former government office complex, with a total area of 618.26 square meters and a capacity for 24 children. The facility will include four childcare rooms, a group activity room, a director's office, a teacher's office, a kitchen, restrooms, and storage rooms.
In particular, four therapy rooms-including sensory therapy and speech therapy rooms-will be installed to support the development of young children with disabilities. The city added that it is looking forward to proposals from operators for a variety of therapy and program operation plans.
After selecting the consignment operator, the city plans to proceed with preparations for opening, including interior construction and the purchase of equipment.
