The Grande Dixence Dam is the seventh highest dam in the world and the largest hydroelectric dam in Europe. Utilizing glacial water from the Alps, it generates approximately 2,000 GWh of electricity annually, which is enough to power about 400,000 households. It is considered a key facility, accounting for 20% of Switzerland's total electricity supply. In addition to energy production, the dam also offers tourism activities such as interior tours, cable cars, hiking trails, and zip lines.
This site visit marks the first step in benchmarking efforts to develop the Soyang River Dam tourism infrastructure project and explore ways to achieve RE100.

Currently, the city is promoting the Soyang River Dam tourism infrastructure project. This project aims to alleviate traffic congestion caused by an expected increase in tourists following the opening of the Soyang Lake perimeter trail and to utilize the area around the dam as a tourism resource. Chuncheon City plans to incorporate the energy and tourism convergence model observed at the Grande Dixence Dam into the Soyang River Dam infrastructure project, with the goal of establishing a sustainable model unique to Chuncheon.
