Chuncheon City to Host "Zero Waste Urban Camping" at Yaksacheon
Eight Families with Elementary School Children to Participate
Combining Zero Waste Education and Overnight Urban Camping
Eco-Friendly Cooking, Upcycling Workshops, Nighttime Ecological Exploration, and More
A Resident-Participation Project Building on the Achievements of "Made by Yaksacheon"
Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province (Mayor: Yuk Donghan), in collaboration with the Chuncheon Social Innovation Center (Director: Park Junghwan), will host a "Zero Waste Urban Camping" event for families with elementary school children, focusing on the area around Yaksacheon. This initiative, which has been underway since being selected in last year's Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Local Identity Enhancement Contest, aims to explore sustainable lifestyles based on local resources and resident participation.
The program is open to families residing in Chuncheon with elementary school-aged children. It will run from September 27 to October 12. Only teams that can participate in the preliminary zero waste education are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted via email by September 24. Selected families will receive partial support for camping equipment.
The program consists of three main components: zero waste education for daily life, camping preparation training, and a one-night, two-day urban camping experience. At the campsite, families can directly experience a sustainable lifestyle through a variety of activities, including eco-friendly cooking using local ingredients, upcycled craft making, and nighttime ecological exploration.
Previously, Chuncheon City fostered 13 local makers through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's local branding project "Made by Yaksacheon," and partnered with Muji to open a pop-up store, thereby laying the foundation for residents to grow as makers themselves. This urban camping event is a follow-up project to the "2024 Local Identity Enhancement Project," building on these achievements.
