Investigation Into Allegations of Illegal Political Fund Transactions
Police have launched a compulsory investigation in connection with allegations of illegal political funds involving a member of the Gokseong County Council in South Jeolla Province.
On September 17, the Second Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Division of the South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency conducted a search and seizure at the Finance Division of Gokseong County Office and other locations, securing all documents related to construction contracts ordered by Gokseong County, including flood recovery projects.
The police are investigating based on a complaint alleging that a member of the Gokseong County Council, referred to as Assemblyman A, exerted undue influence over flood recovery construction contracts.
The complainant reportedly claimed that Assemblyman A directed the selection of a specific company. It is also reported that the complainant testified to having provided illegal political funds worth several million won to Assemblyman A.
The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the case based on the materials they have secured.
