Ceremonies honoring the patriotic martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Imjin War and the Jeongyu War will be held this month at the Chilbaekui Tomb in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province, and the Maninui Tomb in Namwon, North Jeolla Province.

This year marks the 433rd anniversary of the Chilbaekui Tomb ceremony, which will take place at 3 p.m. on the 23rd. The event will be attended by Heo Min, Commissioner of the Cultural Heritage Administration, descendants of the Seven Hundred Martyrs, Buddhist leaders, and around 300 participants. The ceremony will proceed in the order of incense offering, ritual wine offering, reading of the memorial address, and a floral tribute by the President. It will also feature a Salpuri dance performance by an Intangible Cultural Heritage holder, a memorial visit, and Buddhist rituals. The Chilbaekui Tomb enshrines the spirits of militia leaders Jo Heon and Go Gyeongmyeong, Buddhist monk Yeonggyu, and other militia members. It was designated as a Historic Site in 1963.

The Maninui Tomb ceremony, marking its 428th anniversary, will be held at 3 p.m. on the 26th. About 500 people, including local National Assembly members and descendants of the Manin Martyrs, will participate. The procedures will be the same as those at the Chilbaekui Tomb, with additional performances by the Namwon Municipal Gugak Orchestra, including the Jijeon Dance and creative Korean traditional music. The Maninui Tomb enshrines the spirits of over 10,000 civilians, officials, and soldiers who died in the Battle of Namwon Fortress during the Jeongyu War. It was designated as a Historic Site in 1981.

The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "We will continue our efforts to preserve and manage these sites so that the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs is fully passed down, and we will expand cultural programs that the public can participate in together."
