Anseong's "New Nighttime Economy Revitalization" Experiment Raises Hopes for Local Economic Recovery
Over 80,000 Citizens Participate in Seven Weeks of Diverse Nighttime Programs
Including Libraries, Jangmadang Festival, Outdoor Swimming Pools, and Movie Screenings
Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province is being recognized for the achievements of its so-called "new nighttime economy revitalization project," which was promoted for nearly two months this summer and is now seen as having the potential to boost the local economy.
This project, themed "How about a night stroll in Anseong today?", was implemented over seven weeks from July 14 to August 31 as a nighttime economic model. Unlike the traditional nighttime economy, which mainly relies on entertainment, the city provided a variety of nighttime programs that families could enjoy together in public spaces.

This participation expanded citizens' daily activities and encouraged spending, presenting a new model for economic revitalization.
During the project period, the city opened over 30 public facilities, such as libraries and cultural centers, for nighttime use. This initiative targeted office workers and families who found it difficult to use these facilities during the day.
Specifically, during this period, facilities such as Gongdo Library (6,400 visitors), Central Library (2,700 visitors), Anseong Mat-Chum Community Center (2,100 visitors), Jinsa Library (1,900 visitors), and Anseong Media Center (1,200 visitors) saw significant attendance, serving as a foundation for revitalizing the nighttime economy.
The city also held more than 30 nighttime events aimed at fostering community and providing relaxation for residents. Notable examples include the operation of outdoor swimming pools at Naehehol Square and the West Anseong Sports Center.
On July 26, the city hosted the "Summer Movie Night" event, which featured outdoor film screenings, magic shows, popera performances, experience booths, water slides, and a flea market, attracting around 3,000 citizens.
In particular, the "Anseong Jangmadang Festival," held on August 30, drew 10,000 visitors in a single day, making it the most attended event during the project. The city explained that, as a result, shops and traditional markets near the festival venue saw sales more than double compared to regular weekdays.
The city also promoted consumption by linking local currency with a public delivery app, resulting in approximately 26.8 billion won in local currency sales over July and August. This amount is more than double that of the same period last year.
