Yangsan City to Intensively Manage Forests in Wildfire-Prone Areas in the Second Half of the Year
Securing an Additional 500 Million Won Budget
Intensive Management of Wildfire-Prone Areas Around Industrial Complexes and Temples
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will begin the full-scale implementation of the “2025 Forest Fire Prevention Forest Management Phase 2 Project” starting in September, with the aim of protecting the lives and property of its citizens from forest fires.
This project focuses on intensively managing vulnerable areas, such as those surrounding industrial complexes and temples, where large-scale damage is a concern in the event of a forest fire.
In the first half of this year, the city managed approximately 150 hectares through Phase 1 of the project. For the second half, Yangsan City has secured an additional budget of about 500 million won and plans to manage an additional 250 hectares of forest.
Through this project, Yangsan City will remove undergrowth that serves as fuel within the forest and establish firebreaks and work roads around industrial complexes and temples. This approach is intended to reduce the risk of wildfire spread and lay the groundwork for rapid firefighting operations.

Kim Cheolhwan, head of the Forestry Division, stated, “Since the consent of forest owners is essential for managing forest areas around industrial complexes vulnerable to wildfires, there are some sections where the project faces difficulties due to a lack of consent. We ask for the active cooperation of forest owners to prioritize the management of vulnerable areas such as industrial complexes and temples, protect the safety of our citizens from wildfires, and restore healthy forests.”
