Gwangju Human Rights Office Marks 20th Anniversary with Special Human Rights Culture Lectures

The Gwangju Human Rights Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea is celebrating its 20th anniversary by organizing a special human rights culture lecture series for the local community. Legal professionals, cartoonists, popular culture critics, and film directors will take the stage in turn to explore the theme of "Human Rights Landscape at Twenty," sharing insights into human rights sensitivity in everyday life.

View original imageThe Gwangju Human Rights Office announced on the 17th that it will hold a special lecture series titled "A Walk Through the Human Rights Landscape at Twenty" at the Kim Namju Memorial Hall in Humanities Building 1 at Chonnam National University. The series will take place four times, from the 23rd of this month to the 28th of next month.
The first lecture, scheduled for the 23rd, will be delivered by attorney Lim Jaesung (Haemaru Law Firm, former host of KBS's "Current Affairs Direct"), under the theme "When Does the Moment of Responsibility Arrive?: When the Voices of Victims of State Violence Meet Accountability." On the 30th, cartoonist Kim Taegwon, author of "Uncomfortable Art Museum," will present "A Human Rights Story Through Pictures." On the 14th of next month, popular culture critic Lee Youngmi, author of "How the Songs of the Square Change the World," will give a lecture titled "Kim Min-ki and Jung Tae-chun, Korea's Critical Folk." Finally, on the 28th, director Byun Youngjoo, known for the film "Helpless" and the drama "Death to Snow White," will take the stage with a lecture on "Film: How I Read the World."
