Army Reports Sergeant's Death to Police, Identifies Senior Officers' Mistreatment
"Evidence of Verbal Abuse and Mistreatment Identified"
The Army has determined that there is evidence of a crime related to the death of a sergeant in a shooting incident that occurred on August 23 and has reported this to the police.
The Army Investigation Division announced on September 16 that it had identified circumstances in which senior officers verbally abused and mistreated the deceased at a frontline Guard Post (GP) under the 15th Division in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province. The division judged that there was "suspicion of a crime leading to death" and reported this to the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency.

The Army Investigation Division stated, "We will actively cooperate with the investigation by civilian authorities," adding, "For reference, the Army Investigation Division will continue to verify the circumstances and procedures regarding the deceased's assignment to the GP."
