Choi Minho: "We Must Ensure a Happy Chuseok for Everyone Without Leaving Anyone Behind"
At the Executive Meeting, Mayor Choi Urges Review of Sector-Specific Concerns
and Discovery of New Tourism Attractions
Choi Minho, the mayor of Sejong, urged city officials to thoroughly review citizens' concerns in each sector to ensure that everyone can enjoy a happy Chuseok holiday, the nation's major traditional festival.
Presiding over an executive meeting on September 16, Mayor Choi said, "With the economic downturn continuing for a long time, there will likely be neighbors who feel left out even during the holidays. We must proactively address any inconveniences citizens face so that we can bring smiles to those who are lonely and struggling this Chuseok."
He also called for special holiday events for North Korean defectors, elderly people living alone, and vulnerable groups, and instructed officials to actively listen to the difficulties faced by small business owners and workers with unpaid wages. In addition, he emphasized the need to clean up illegal waste and abandoned materials and to conduct meticulous lawn maintenance, so returning visitors can see a clean and well-kept hometown and experience the dignity of a garden city.
In particular, Mayor Choi welcomed the government's decision to hold its first cabinet meeting in Sejong and expressed anticipation for the swift completion of the administrative capital. He further instructed officials to closely monitor developments regarding the possible relocation of additional government ministries, such as the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Ministry of Justice, from the Seoul metropolitan area to Sejong.
He also urged officials to actively discover local attractions and specialties to attract tourists during upcoming events. Mayor Choi said, "With the Sejong Hangeul Festival next month and the 2027 Chungcheong Summer Universiade, the number of visitors to Sejong will continue to increase," and ordered a comprehensive review of all elements that could enhance the tourist experience.
