Democratic Party Sejong City Branch Welcomes Appointment of Choi Gyojin as Minister of Education
Choi Gyojin, former Superintendent of Education for Sejong, was recently appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education.
The Sejong City Branch of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairman Kang Junhyun) issued a statement on the 15th, and on the 16th expressed its sincere welcome to the appointment of former Superintendent Choi Gyojin, who has led innovative education policies for the past 12 years, as the 62nd Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education.
The city branch stated, "Irresponsible policies and showmanship administration that have ignored the realities of the education field have threatened the future of our children and reduced education to a tool for political strife. As a result, education in South Korea has been left in crisis and confusion."
The appointment of Minister Choi Gyojin was described as "a new starting point for rebuilding education, so that children, teachers, and parents alike can have hope." The branch evaluated that "Minister Choi successfully implemented nationally recognized policies such as innovative schools, village education communities, and the high school credit system, making Sejong a leading city for the future of education in South Korea."
They also stated that, based on such experience and philosophy, all citizens expect Minister Choi to normalize education in South Korea and present a new vision.
Furthermore, they emphasized their belief that Minister Choi will surely achieve the restoration of collapsed teacher authority, the resolution of educational inequality, the cultivation of future talent, and educational decentralization in cooperation with local communities.
The city branch also addressed the opposition parties, stating, "There can be no political strife when it comes to normalizing education. If anyone hinders efforts to recover from the collapse caused by the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, it is tantamount to turning away from the future of our children and betraying the people. Education reform is a historical responsibility that requires cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties."
